1. 03-04 Work Plan discussion

Need to finalize our work plan in the next couple months. Today we need an outline of work plan priorities. All were supposed to be thinking about priorities for the work plan prior to this call. Work plan ideas:

- Overhaul of the web site… Outdated information, updated information, more useful information, Karyn & Christine's plan for web based member benefits, welcome packet, guide, profiles, benchmarking, etc.

- Workshop at annual congress

- Workshops at RO and other (i.e. APPA) organizations' conferences/events

- Membership efforts - increased members, updating of current member information. NRC has agreed to give us 50% of the revenue from new 'CURC' members. Details of this agreement are still to be outlined.

- Web based member profiles could serve as the membership directory.

- Integrate profiles, benchmarking and idea/expertise information into one campus profile segment.

- Can we integrate more environmental savings information into the benchmarking calculations? Dale will look into this.

- Open to partnerships but not something we can actively pursue at this point. Look for opportunities to act on partnerships as they present themselves.

- Last years work plan also included: Pete, anything else I missed when I fell off the call?

- Mike Y's vendor idea (see below)

Next we need to look at these ideas to determine what resources are needed to make these things happen - cost, volunteers interested in taking these things on, staff time, etc. Ed can offer student help for projects.

**Committee chairs should look through this list and identify which things fall in your area and determine whether you can or cannot do them, if help is needed to make them a reality and what cost is associate with the item.** If there is a question about NRC involvement or contribution to any of these items, include that in your comments. Provide all this feedback to Pete by November 15 please.

2. Discuss Karyn and Christine's (K & C) Packet

General Discussion: The information in the ABCs is very good. Their ideas and information are good and a great starting point for us to work from to create a useful member benefits section for CURC. Some concern about the fact that a lot of the information isn't applicable to all schools… There isn't a 'cookie-cutter' approach that will work for all of us. Maybe a summary or shortened version would be more user friendly. Any information we provide may not be useful or applicable to everyone but that doesn't mean it's not useful to some of our members. Should be a work in progress that develops and incorporates different approaches to different tasks. Could incorporate regional contacts in each section so people can look to those who are in a similar situation for better insight. How do we as a group make sure that links and information provided isn't exclusive or biased or that we aren't missing someone. Need to be sure we include a tag line stating that links, vendors, etc. are simply ones CURC members have had positive experiences with and are not comprehensive.

Next step is how to make this a deliverable, where to go from here, how to work with the volunteers who've done the work thus far. How do we do this? Compile comments both pro and con before we respond to K & C…

All steers should take a good, thorough look at the document and come up with comments, concerns, ideas, etc. by our next call. This, along with our work plan, will be the priority of our next call. Please send your comments to Julie who will distribute them as they come. Pete will touch base with K & C to let them know what we're doing and thank them for what they've done.

3. Member survey

Survey is out and due November 18. We will also be sending a note to all members to encourage them to complete their profile and benchmarking information. Waiting to send this out till after the survey.

4. Mike's vendor proposal/idea

"Work with vendors who can showcase their products on our website and offer us reduced rates based on the leverage we have of over 380 members statewide (sic). Freight is of course on a case by case basis. The premise here is that each vendor will offer special rates to our members at rates better than if one were to solicit a bid alone. Potentially, this project will truly offer our membership some valuable service. A college that is small should theoretically have the same leverage as a member university with a population of 50,000 or more. That is our goal. Potential vendors include: Rubbermaid, toter (each company that makes such containers), midpoint international, real pro service corporation (makers of bug a way plastic bag products), etc."

It is difficult to identify certain vendors with all that are out there (e.g. Rubbermaid dealers). Actual contracts with these vendors could be difficult. Again, would be critical to include a tag line stating that links, vendors, etc. are simply ones CURC members have positive experiences with and are not comprehensive.
